Collaging Between the Lines: a surrealist writing workshop

$25.00

What narratives are available when we open ourselves up to possibility? Join visual artist and surrealist poet Jada Simone in a mindful exploration through artmaking and poetry. Taking inspiration from various modern and contemporary collage artists, in this 1.5 hour-long workshop we will stretch our imaginations through brief collage exercises using magazines, photographs, scraps, and other found materials. We will then learn to craft narratives from our creations in an expansive prompt-guided generative writing practice. Participants will have the opportunity to share and/or participate in a walk-around, if they so choose. All materials included (but feel free to bring your own). No art experience required!

Jada Simone (aka a_note_from_jada) is a local Ithaca-based poet and visual artist working in sculpture, painting, and performance mediums. Originally from Grand Rapids, MI, she took her words to the stage for the first time at a local open mic in 2023 with the launch of her first chapbook, "Unfollowed Into the Dark" in 2024.  Her commitment to the creative process led to a deep involvement in the Ithaca poetry community by hosting community conversations, leading summer writing workshops at the Tompkins County Public Library, and even starting month-long poetry challenges on social media. Focusing on themes of love, loss, family, and change, she hopes her words inspire, comfort, and shed light on truths in our daily lives.
