Poetry Altars: Ritual, Memory and the Poetic Object With Amanda Ngoho Reavey

$350.00

JULY 2026 TBA

Poetry Altars: Ritual, Memory and the Poetic Object

With Amanda Ngoho Reavey

In this generative, hands-on workshop, we will create miniature poetry altars – intimate vessels of language, memory, and transformation. Rooted in ritual and shaped by justice, poetry altars invite us to grieve, remember, and imagine otherwise.

Together, we’ll explore how fragments, found objects, and poetic lines can become a space for healing, an altar to the unsaid. Participants will engage with examples, write in response to prompts, and assemble a small altar using meaningful materials.

No prior experience necessary, just a willingness to listen deeply and honor what arises. Come as you are. Leave with something sacred.

Amanda Reavey (MFA) is a poet, interdisciplinary artist, and Emeritus Poetry Fellow at Black Earth Institute. She is the author of Marilyn (The Operating System, 2015), which won the 2017 Best Book Award in Poetry from the Association for Asian American Studies. Through Poetry Altars, Amanda’s work explores memory, tenderness, and healing through miniature forms and rituals. Amanda earned an MFA in Writing & Poetics from Naropa University and is currently pursuing a Master of Social Work from Concordia University. She is the Co-Vice President of the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets, founder and co-host of Tabi Po Poetry, and lives in Milwaukee with her two cats.
