Artists and Poets Involved:

Mariah Smith: Mariah is a poet and advocate from Jackson, Michigan, and a Master of Public Administration candidate at Cornell University. Her work sits at the intersection of policy, poetry, and visual storytelling. Rooted in Midwest resilience and shaped by academic rigor, she uses language as both witness and weapon — documenting moments of solitude, connection, and collective liberation.

Through her writing and performance, Mariah explores how storytelling can move communities, influence systems, and reimagine freedom.

Jennilie Brewster is an artist who works in various forms and in community, often exploring connections between our inner and outer landscapes. Her paintings and installations have been shown widely. Her essays have appeared on Catapult and the Rumpus. She founded the disability justice-and-arts organization OPEN DOORS NYC and produced the award-winning documentary film Fire Through Dry Grass

Mack Rovenolt is a local journalist, poet, and artist with a focus on printmaking and collage, though they enjoy learning new art forms and techniques. Both their art and poetry center on nature motifs and they draw inspiration from the physical and spiritual world around them. Their pets also make frequent appearances in their work. Mack has previously been featured in two galleries: print art featured in the Generating Joy Show at the Cherry with Ithaca Generator, and collage work featured in Queer Visions Queer Voices June 2025 at the CAP Artspace. Their work can be found at MRoven Prints on Instagram.

georgianna Van Gunten is a visual artist, poet and founding hedge witch at ithaca writing studio.

Susan Eschbach:  I am the salt marsh trail's robust blackberries thicketful

the soaring redwood and lush green fern

the  thrumming flap of crow and wild golden field waving

   and a fire, a storm, a pirate, a poet, a mom, a teacher, a lover,

awash in color and awe.
